What is one thing you wish all brides knew when they are planing their wedding to help them look and feel beautiful? What a great question! If I can help a bride in anyway to lessen her stress and make her feel more beautiful on her big day then here are a few things I feel can help the process.
1. Consultation
Always book a consultation! Be specific with what look you are going for. Bring pictures to help your artist know your style! I actually love it when brides text or email me pictures before they even come, so I already feel more connected to their style and can be prepared for day of consultation. Remember to look at the makeup in the picture, you are not the model nor will you look like her at the end of your consultation. Makeup is to enhance YOUR beauty and your best features! 🙂
2. Beautifully YOU
Your wedding is not the day to try new courageous looks. If you have never worn a red lip in your life, or a dark smokey eye. Please don’t think your wedding is the day to try it. I say this for a few reasons. First your fiancé wants to see you coming down the aisle looking like the beautiful girl he fell in love with. Second, if you do not feel comfortable, you will not look comfortable. You want to feel like you. That being said, if red lips are your thing, then by all means rock that red lip!!
3. Brows
Oh my goodness I can not tell you how many times I have done makeup applications and it takes everything in me to not grab my tweezers and start going to town! Please my girls…..please take care of your brows for your big day! Have them waxed or threaded a couple days in advance in case you have any sensitivities. Go to someone you trust and get your brows trimmed and shaped! Lots of close up pictures day of your wedding, a nicely shaped brow goes a long way!
4. Drink Water
This is the easiest and most affordable way to make your skin glow for your big day! Drink 3-4 litres of filtered water everyday. Your eyes and skin will appear clear and beautiful.” While your coffee is brewing, drink one to two glasses of water, with lemon squeezed into it. This helps wake up your metabolism. Then, finish up the day by downing at least one glass before bed to maintain hydration.
Benefits of lemon in your water:
- Boosts Immune System – high in Vitamin C and potassium, helps to fight colds and other sicknesses
- Balances ph -even though lemons contain citric acid, it is one of the most alkaline foods around, drinking lemon water will reduce the acids in your body once metabolized
- Aids in Digestion – flushes unwanted materials, encourages the liver to produce bile which is an acid required for digestion, healthy gut, healthy skin
- Helps with Weight Loss -lemons are high in pectin, which curbs hunger cravings
- Clears Skin/Acne – Vitamin C helps decrease blemishes and wrinkles and purges toxins from the blood, antiseptic properties clears pimples
5. Skin Routine
Start a good skin routine months in advance. Do not try a new skin care line too close to wedding date in case you react negatively, break out or have sensitivities to it! Keep skin hydrated and glowing with a proper routine, exfoliate 2 times a week, moisturize and of course lots of water! Eat super foods! What we eat has a direct effect on our skin and eating a healthy diet full of good fats, antioxidants, vitamin C, collagen, and amino acids can mean the difference between a fresh, glowing complexion and a tired, puffy, wrinkled one! A few examples of super foods are:
*Avocados- high in poly- and monounsaturated fatty acids (like omega 9’s), they keep skin looking firm and dewy, help regenerate damaged skin cells, and reduce redness and irritation
*Turmeric-Turmeric is great for skin due to its incredible anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation in the body is really rough on skin, leading to wrinkles and aging in the long term and making skin look puffy and tired in the short term. Eating or drinking dried or fresh turmeric helps fight inflammation, keeping skin looking fresher and younger, while also helping relieve more serious inflammatory skin problems such as eczema and rosacea.
*Blueberries-Antioxidants are one of the most important factors in maintaining beautiful skin, and eating blueberries is one of the easiest ways to get them. Antioxidants help fight and neutralize free radicals (one of skin’s worst enemies), which are known to damage skin cells and collagen, causing wrinkles, dry skin, and a host of other aging skin factors. Blueberries are also full of vitamin A, which helps normalize oil levels in your skin, and is very helpful in naturally clearing up acne-prone skin
6. Stress
Try hard to keep stress to a minimum. Stress releases cortisol, which can throw off your hormones and can cause breakouts on your face and body. It can cause other skin issues to flare up such as psoriasis and eczema.
*Under eye bags* If you are lying awake at night worrying about your to do list, you are losing out on your beauty sleep! You can end up a puffy mess in the morning! Shut your brain off and get your ZZZZZZZZZZ (So much easier said than done) To prevent this, shut your phone off or to silent mode. Do not fall asleep with any lights or electronics on. Try some breathing exercises to help you relax. If still puffy in the morning, use a cold spoon up to your under eye area and massage from the inner eye corner to the outer to help the fluids drainage.
